Launch of the TourEdu4All project – A holistic model to open tourism VET for vulnerable groups | Capacity Building in VET education (EU & SSA)

The TourEdu4All project, a collaborative effort between nine partners from Greece, Germany, Spain, North Africa, Gambia, and Kenya, aims to contribute to tourism education in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA).

With a focus on enhancing employability among vulnerable groups (such as youth and women, especially in rural areas), the project seeks to provide equitable access to vocational education and training (VET) in tourism while promoting cooperation among VET institutions. By developing a Holistic Model for inclusive Tourism, TourEdu4All addresses the region’s need for accessible and high-quality education.

Recognizing the challenges faced by SSA’s education sector, including limited funding and high rates of unemployment, particularly among women, TourEdu4All aims to bridge the gap by offering inclusive educational opportunities

Through targeted initiatives, TourEdu4All seeks to enhance the competitiveness of the SSA tourism sector. At the core of TourEdu4All are four pillars: Empowerment and Inclusion, Entrepreneurship at the VET level, Distance Learning and Training, and Excellence in Tourism. These pillars address the specific needs of SSA Tourism VET institutions and guide the project’s efforts. A dedicated and free of charge training course will be made available online to address such challenges.

The project’s kickoff meeting on January 26th marked the beginning of this collaborative endeavor. During the meeting, partners presented their organizations and roles, and Work Packages were unveiled, detailing tasks and responsibilities. This kicked off the research phase of the project, which will include also mutual study visits hosted by different partners, the first one being in Greece in May 2024.

TourEdu4All represents a collaborative initiative to empower marginalized populations and promote entrepreneurship within the tourism sector in SSA. Through innovative approaches and strategic partnerships, the project aims to create a sustainable and inclusive tourism education landscape in the region.
